This edition focuses on important changes and updates from the IND (Immigration and Naturalisation Service) that impact highly skilled migrants living in the Netherlands. From adjustments to the European Blue Card regulations to new processing timelines and secure communication methods. Stay up-to-date with these crucial changes to make the most of your stay and career in the Netherlands.
Summer Period Processing Times
During July, August, and September, application processing may be delayed due to fewer decision-making staff available. The IND asks for your understanding and patience during this period. Submit applications early to minimize delays.
New Rules for the European Blue Card (EBC)
Key updates to the EBC include:
Residence Permit Transfer within a Company
As of 16 April 2024, employees only need to stay outside the EU for 6 months before reapplying if the maximum duration of the previous permit has been reached (3 years for managers/specialists, 1 year for trainees).
Salary Requirements for Highly Skilled Migrants
If your salary temporarily falls below the required criterion due to specific circumstances, such as long-term illness, it might affect your right of residence. Ensure you stay informed about these regulations and seek advice if necessary.
Secure Communication with the IND
The IND is transitioning to secure emailing via Zivver to comply with the General Personal Data Regulation (AVG). Faxing remains an option temporarily, but using Zivver for secure communication will become standard by the end of 2024.
